We are overjoyed by the overwhelming support and enthusiasm shown by the Melbourne diverse community in Melbourne and especially the wonderful community in Footscray at the recent SalamFest event held in the heart of Footscray CBD. It was truly a day to remember, filled with laughter, learning, and the vibrant celebration of our rich cultural diversity.
Celebrating Unity and Diversity
From the bottom of our hearts, we extend our deepest gratitude to the Maribyrnong Council for their invaluable support and collaboration with SalamFest and amazing support. Their dedication to showcasing the breadth of Muslim arts, culture, and spiritual traditions in Melbourne was evident throughout the event. The Eid Festival, a primary pillar in the SalamFest movement, embodies the key values of peace, love, and compassion. It was an honour for the Malak Foundation to play a supporting role alongside SalamFest's wonderful team, who led the event with exceptional grace and passion.
Highlights of the Day
Transforming Nicholson Street: A special thank you to the Bearded Bakers for transforming Nicholson Street with music, dance, and their delicious Knafeh. This celebration brought the vibrant street to life with tantalizing aromas and a joyful atmosphere, showcasing the renowned Bearded Bakers and their famous Knafeh.
Cultural Performances: The performances were a magnificent display of talent and heritage. Each dance, song, and performance shared a piece of our diverse backgrounds, creating a beautiful mosaic of cultures.
Art Exhibits: The art exhibits showcased the creativity and stories of our community. It was inspiring to see the unique perspectives and artistic expressions that make us who we are.
Culinary Delights: The food stalls were a hit! Thank you to all the vendors who provided a taste of home with their delicious offerings. It was a gastronomic journey that delighted our taste buds and brought us closer together.
Interactive Activities: From workshops to interactive sessions, the activities were engaging and educational. They provided a platform for learning and exchange, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of our diverse cultures.

We also want to extend a special thank you to the volunteers, performers, and vendors. Your support and dedication were instrumental in making this event a success. Your commitment to celebrating diversity and fostering a sense of community is truly commendable.

As we reflect on this wonderful event, we are filled with hope and excitement for the future. This celebration was just one of many steps towards building a more inclusive and supportive community. We look forward to hosting more events and activities that bring us together, celebrate our differences, and strengthen our bonds and this event is proudly supported by the Maribyrnong City Council's Signature Festivals and Activations Grants Program.
