Embracing the Spirit of Ramadan: A Call for Compassion and Solidarity

As the holy month of Ramadan dawns upon us, the Malak Foundation extends heartfelt wishes to each and every one of you. Ramadan Kareem! May this month be filled with blessings, reflection, and a renewed sense of purpose.

During this sacred time, as we come together with family and friends to fast, pray, and engage in acts of charity, let us not forget those who are less fortunate and continue to suffer due to war and conflict around the world. The Malak Foundation stands in solidarity with the millions of people in regions like Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan, Yemen, and many others, who endure the harsh realities of violence, displacement, and uncertainty.

According to the latest statistics from the UNHCR, the number of refugees worldwide has reached a staggering 35.3 million by the end of 2022, marking the largest yearly increase ever recorded. These numbers are not just statistics; they represent individuals and families forced to flee their homes, seeking safety and stability in the face of unimaginable challenges.

In total currently, there are more than 108.4 million people worldwide who were forcibly displaced as a result of persecution, conflict, violence, human rights violations and events seriously disturbing public order.

This represents an increase of 19 million people compared to the end of 2021 – more than the populations of Ecuador, the Netherlands (Kingdom of the) or Somalia. It is also the largest ever increase between years according to UNHCR’s statistics on forced displacement.

More than 1 in every 74 people on Earth has been forced to flee.

As we gather with loved ones to break our fasts and offer prayers of gratitude, let us spare a thought for those who may not have a home to return to, a warm meal to share, or the comfort of their families by their side. Ramadan is a time for empathy, compassion, and action. It is an opportunity for us to extend our hands and hearts to those in need, embodying the true spirit of charity and kindness.

The Malak Foundation invites our community to reflect on the values of Ramadan and consider how we can make a positive impact on the lives of those affected by conflict. Whether through financial contributions, volunteering, or raising awareness, each of us has the power to make a difference.

Let us unite in our efforts to alleviate the suffering of our brothers and sisters across the globe, and especially here in Victoria. Together, we can contribute to building a world where peace, justice, and compassion prevail. May this Ramadan be a time of introspection, generosity, and unity, as we work towards creating a brighter and more hopeful future for all.

Ramadan Kareem to you and your families.
