ASFI Solidarity with Sudanese Scientists Amidst War

African Science Frontiers Initiatives (ASFI) Stands with Sudanese Scientists Amidst War

In the face of adversity, the resilience and determination of the Sudanese people have always shone through. However, the ongoing war has left no corner untouched, affecting various aspects of life, including the invaluable contributions of Sudanese scientists to society. In this challenging time, the African Science Frontiers Initiatives (ASFI) has emerged as a beacon of support, extending a helping hand to Sudanese academics and scientists.

Sudanese scientists find themselves among the most affected groups during these tumultuous times. Displacement from their workplaces and fleeing their communities have become unfortunate realities for many, leaving them uncertain about their ability to continue their crucial scientific work. ASFI, recognising the pivotal role scientists play in societal development, has taken a commendable step forward in offering support where it is most needed.

ASFI firmly believes that scientists are the guardians of their societies, standing at the forefront of progress and development. The displacement of scientists from their work not only creates a sense of hopelessness for the individuals affected but also leaves a void in the advancement of their societies. Now, more than ever, the solidarity of fellow scientists across the African continent is crucial to rebuilding the foundations of scientific inquiry and discovery in Sudan.

In a powerful and meaningful gesture of support, ASFI has released a statement outlining their commitment to stand by their Sudanese counterparts during these trying times. The African Science Frontiers Initiatives aims to provide relief and encouragement through two significant initiatives:

  1. Free Membership to the ASFI General Assembly for 2024: ASFI extends a warm invitation to all interested Sudanese scientists, offering them a free membership to the ASFI General Assembly for the entirety of 2024. This membership serves as a bridge, connecting Sudanese scientists with a broader community, fostering collaboration, and ensuring that they remain an integral part of the scientific discourse.

  2. Free Entrance to ASFI Courses in 2024: ASFI recognises the importance of continuous learning and professional development. In line with this, they are providing free access to all ASFI courses offered in 2024 for Sudanese scientists. The initiative kicks off with the Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis course scheduled for 25th-29th March 2024. This opportunity not only equips scientists with new skills but also offers a platform for engagement within a supportive and understanding community.

These measures taken by ASFI demonstrate a commitment to rebuilding the scientific community in Sudan and fostering a sense of belonging among the affected scientists. By offering these opportunities, ASFI aims to empower Sudanese scientists to remain actively involved in their scientific pursuits, even in the face of adversity.

Malak Foundation is pleased to share ASFI's media release with the Sudanese community, both within the country and abroad. The efforts of ASFI exemplify the power of unity and solidarity in times of crisis. Thus supporting Sudanese scientists to overcome the challenges brought about by war and continue their invaluable contributions to the scientific community and the development of Sudan as a whole.
